Its exam week for college students! Stress will soon become your best friend if not already. Stress is often referred to as “The Silent Killer.” Stress is defined as a condition of physical or mental strain which produces changes in the automatic nervous system. The human body prepares for a fight or flight. There are 2 types of stress, psychological and physiological. Don’t get me wrong stress is important to the human brain it’s what keeps us going, in fact eustress is the positive form of stress. But here’s the real question, “How do I control my stress from controlling me?” Unfortunately there isn’t a simple prescription you can take to stop from stressing out but stress management can help you learn to adapt with dealing with stress.
- Stop doing whatever you’re doing
- Breath
- Think about what you can do to help yourself
- Act upon your solution
The faster you act the easier it gets dealing with your stress. Sometimes we overthink about simple things that don’t necessarily need to be thought of. Learn to accept that everything can’t be perfect, life isn’t perfect and it’s ok if you fail. As humans we automatically think if we fail that means that we won’t be successful but little do we know that is the exact opposite, every successful person had a taste of failure to be where they’re now.
“I can accept failure but I can’t accept not trying.” –Michael Jordan
